The Hudson Valley region is bracing for its first winter storm of the season today (December 2). A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for northeast Ulster, Orange, Dutchess, Putnam, and Rockland counties. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Dutchess, Columbia, Greene, Orange, and Ulster counties, predicting snowfall to begin before daybreak and continue until late tonight.
The storm is expected to bring snowfall amounts of three to six inches, with up to eight inches possible in higher elevations. Rain may mix with snow in the lower Hudson Valley, potentially reducing accumulation. According to HVNY.info, snow will move in from the west between 6 and 8 a.m., ending between 4 and 7 p.m.
Travel conditions could be hazardous, especially during the evening commute, as roads become snow-covered and visibility decreases. School closings and delays are anticipated. Forecasters note a higher than usual uncertainty in snowfall amounts, warning that a slight shift in the storm could alter predictions.
Following the storm, temperatures are expected to drop significantly, with lows in the single digits by Thursday night. Another inch of snow is possible on Saturday. For the latest updates, residents are encouraged to check local news sources and social media channels.
