Officials in the Hudson Valley are advising residents to prepare for extremely cold weather this week. An arctic airmass is expected to keep temperatures below freezing until Friday night (January 24). Dutchess County officials recommend calling 211 for information on emergency housing and warming centers.

At Montgomery Airport in Orange County, temperatures have plummeted to negative 11 degrees Fahrenheit. Governor Kathy Hochul has urged New Yorkers to take precautions as the state faces a combination of winter storms and extreme cold. Feels-like temperatures could drop to as low as negative 25 degrees Fahrenheit in some areas. Governor Hochul stated, "These conditions pose an extraordinary risk to anyone exposed to the elements or unable to adequately heat their home."

The New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services is coordinating with local agencies to provide assistance, while the Department of Transportation has deployed additional staff to the Hudson Valley. Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts and prepare for the cold weather. For more information on weather alerts, visit the National Weather Service website.
