Dee Snider Endorses Petition To Get AC/DC To Play Super Bowl Halftime Show

A petition to get AC/DC to play the Super Bowl halftime show has picked up steam after being endorsed by Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider.

The petition garnered over 10,000 signatures in a couple days since Snider's endorsement. Honestly, we think it's time you sign it too.

Snider, like many rockers, has complained for years that the NFL mostly ignored rock in the halftime show last decade.

He explained last week via IG TV that he supports efforts to diversify the halftime show, but he says representation should extend to all genres.

"I think all music should be represented, sooner or later, at the Super Bowl, have that forum, the halftime show," he said. "It's been a very long time since a hard rock band — a real rock band has been represented at the halftime show. I think that it is time!"

For what it's worth, classic rock had a pretty good run at the Super Bowl halftime show from about 2002 - 2010. The last rock band to headline the event was The Who in 2010.

As the NFL has become more focused on appealing to younger, more diverse main stream audiences, rock and roll as a genre has been largely elbowed out of the big game's tradition.

While rock bands have made many appearances at the halftime show, there's never really been a hard rock headliner at the big game. (Aerosmith performed in 2002, but it was on one of the more crowded halftime show stages ever, with Britney Spears, *NSYNC, Mary J. Blige and Nelly.)

Snider loathed the most recent lip-sync extravaganza at the big game, but that's beside the point. He noted via his social media that the NFL's apparent avoidance of hard rock at the Super Bowl doesn't make any sense.

"Every game you guys play, 'Crazy Train,' 'Cum On Feel the Noize,' 'Thunderstruck,' 'Hell's Bells,' 'Enter Sandman,' 'Welcome To The Jungle,' hard rock, classic songs [are played at the stadiums]," he said, going on to note that there's a diverse crowd at every game.

Snider suggested last year that the NFL bridge the gap by booking Queen + Adam Lambert. The band would be an easy sell on account of the ubiquity of Queen's music and the wild success of the Bohemian Rhapsody film.

Most recently, Snider emphasized that the NFL couldn't possibly go wrong booking AC/DC. The Aussie legends are one of the biggest international concert draws ever, and nobody rocks better or harder.

While it's been four years since AC/DC toured, Snider notes that the band is expected to announce a new album and a new tour very soon.

"I'm not hating on the other people," Snider concluded. "...Everybody should have a shot at that great stage at the halftime show. All I'm asking for is a little true rock, a little hard rock. How 'bout Super Bowl LV in 2021: AC/DC? I promise you, they will bring the house down and then I will shut up forever."
