Happy Birthday today (Aug. 13) to Europe drummer Ian Haughland. He's 55.
Europe formed out of Stockholm in 1979 under the name Force with vocalist Joey Tempest, guitarist John Norum, bassist Peter Olsson and drummer Tony Reno. Ian Haughland joined the band in the summer of 1984, replacing Tony Reno. The band rose to fame in the 1980’s with their third album, 1986’s The Final Countdown which sold over three million copies in the United States. The album features some of Europe's biggest songs, including "The Final Countdown", "Rock the Night" and the hit ballad “Carrie”. The band toured in 2017 celebrating the album's 30th anniversary. Europe has sold over 20 million records worldwide. Europe released their latest studio album Walk the Earth in 2017. Cheer to Ian Haughland on his birthday today!
