Sunday, March 17: Tig's Rock Birthdays

Happy Birthday today (March 17) to Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan. He’s 52. Other rockers celebrating include Black Star Riders/Thin Lizzy guitarist Scott Gorham (68), Love/Hate singer Jizzy Pearl (61), and both singer Janet Gardner and drummer Roxy Petrucci of Vixen are 57.

Billy Corgan is the lead singer, guitarist , and sole original member of Smashing Pumpkins. The band formed out of Chicago, Illinois in 1987 and had major success throughout the 1990’s right up until their breakup in 2000. The band’s second album Siamese Dream was a huge success. Released in 1993, it sold 4 million copies in the U.S. and cracked the top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart. Singles included “Cherub Rock”, “Today”, and “Disarm”. They followed that up with 1995’s Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness featuring the band’s biggest hit “1979”. Corgan reactivated Smashing Pumpkins with a new lineup in 1997. Rumors have been running rampant recently regarding the possibility of an original lineup Smashing Pumpkins reunion in the works. I think it would be cool to see. I've never seen Smashing Pumpkins live and would be down to see this reunion. The original core lineup of Smashing Pumpkins reunited in 2018 and released a new album called Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1.
