Wait a minute - there are TWO Woodstock Festivals this Summer?

Now this is going to create some confusion.

Last week, Bethel Woods Center for the Arts announced their intention to mount a 50th Anniversary celebration of the Woodstock concert, which took place on their property in 1969.  The dates are set for August 16th-18th.  No acts or ticket information were announced.

Now, original Woodstock organizer Michael Lang has announced his own Woodstock 50th Anniversary event in Watkins Glen, NY with the same dates.  But likewise, no acts have been announced. Of course, Michael Lang is well aware of the event in Bethel, and he wishes them well, but it seems he wants to run his own Woodstock celebration.  On top of that, Lang told Rolling Stone magazine that he has over 40 performers booked over three stages, including some big-name headliners.

I imagine this puts many bands in a bind who will have to choose which event they want to be part of.  Then again, it's roughly a three hour drive between the two events.  A band could conceivably be part of both.

New York Times has a story.

Here's Michael Lang talking with Jim Kerr and Shelli Sonstein at our sister station Q104.3.

We'll be following this one.
