We remember Peter Steele of Type O Negative on his birthday today (Jan. 4)

Peter Steele was lead singer and bassist for Goth metal band Type O Negative known for his rich-bass baritone vocals. Before Type O Negative, he had created the metal group Fallout and the trash band Carnivore. Steele credited Black Sabbath and the Beatles as his key musical influences. Type O Negative formed out of Brooklyn. NY in 1989 with singer Peter Steele, guitarist Kenny Hickey, keyboardist Josh Silver, and drummer Sal Abruscato. Johnny Kelly would replace Abruscato on drums in 1994. Albums included the platinum selling 1993 album Bloody Kisses, and 1996's October Rust. Peter Steele died of heart failure on April 18, 2010 at the age of 48. I have many fond memories of seeing Type O Negative many times over the years at clubs throughout CT and NY (Tuxedo Junction, Danbury CT and The Chance in Poughkeepsie). Also saw them open for Queensryche once at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Middletown. Peter Steele and Type O Negative are very much missed. Just an awesome band. Crank up some Type O today in honor of Peter Steele's birthday! Check out a classic clip of Peter Steele on The Jerry Springer Show below.
