Today (Nov. 27) we remember Jimi Hendrix who would have been 76. Other rock birthdays include singer Myles Kennedy (Alter Bridge, Slash) who turns 49, Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante (55), and drummer Mike Bordin (Faith No More, Ozzy Osbourne) is 56.
Jimi Hendrix was born on Nov. 27, 1942 in Seattle. Sadly, Jimi passed away on September 18th 1970 of a drug overdose at the age of 27. Hendrix was a major influence on many rock and roll musicians. He taught himself to play the electric guitar and usually played a Fender Stratocaster, ehich he played upside down since he was left-handed. He initially became famous in England and then became famous all through the world after playing the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967. He would also be known for playing the famous Woodstock Music Festival in 1969. In 2003, Rolling Stone magazine named Jimi Hendrix the “Greatest Guitarist of All Time”.
