Happy Birthday today (Nov. 26) to bassist John McVie of Fleetwood Mac. He's 73. Also celebrating is ex Danger Danger keyboardist Kasey Smith (58).
John McVie's surname combined with that of Mick Fleetwood, was the inspiration for the band's name. McVie joined Fleetwood Mac shortly after it's formation by guitarist Peter Green in 1967. He replaced temporary bassist Bob Brunning. He married blues pianist and singer Christine Perfect in 1968, and she became a member of Fleetwood Mac two years later. John McVie and Christine McVie divorced in 1977. Around this time, Fleetwood Mac recorded the classic album Rumours, a commercial success that borrowed it's titles from the turmoils in McVie's and the other band member's marriages and relationships. Rumours has sold over 40 million records worldwide to date. Fleetwood Mac have sold over 100 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling bands of all time. John McVie was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for his work with the band in 1998.
