Happy Birthday today (Nov. 6) to singer Corey Glover of Living Colour. He's 54. Other rockers celebrating include former Dio guitarist Craig Goldy (57) and Mr. Big guitarist Paul Gilbert (52). In remembrance, former singer/guitarist of the Eagles, Glenn Frey would have been 70 today.
Singer Corey Glover currently resides in the Hudson Valley, NY in the city of Newburgh. He was an aspiring actor when he met guitarist Vernon Reid and was recruited for Living Colour in 1985. He appeared as Pvt. Francis in the classic Oliver Stone Vietnam war film Platoon.
Living Colour found immediate success and rose to fame with their debut album Vivid in 1988. The album went platinum in 1989 and the song "Cult of Personality" won a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance and the band won the Best New Artist Award at the MTV Video Music Awards. The band released two more albums (Times Up and Stain) before splitting up in 1995 and eventually reuniting in late 2000. Rolling Stone magazine called Living Colour “funk metal pioneers”. Living Colour released their sixth studio album Shade this past September. I've always been a big Living Colour fan. An amazing band that puts on an incredible live show. I got to meet Corey Glover a few years back after one of his solo shows at the Orange County Choppers Cafe (OCC Cafe) in Newburgh, NY. Chatted a bit with him and we took a photo together (see photo below). A great guy and a true rocker. He'll be appearing at the annual Foodstock concert event at The Chance in Poughkeepsie on Dec. 1. Get tickets here. Cheers to Corey Glover on his birthday!
