Today (Nov. 1) is National Calzone Day.
According to National Day Calendar, National Calzone Day is observed annually on Nov. 1, and one should experience a fresh, hot-from-the-oven calzone on this day.
A calzone is an Italian oven-baked folded pizza that originated in Naples. Most commonly made from salted bread dough, a calzone is stuffed with salami, ham or vegetables, mozzarella, ricotta and Parmesan cheese, and baked in an oven. Calzones are often also stuffed with what would typically be pizza toppings. I've always liked calzones stuffed with meatballs. What's your favorite type of calzone?
