Happy Birthday today (Oct. 3) to drummer Tommy Lee of Motley Crue. He's 56. Other rockers celebrating include guitarist Frank Hannon of Tesla (52), singer Lajon Witherspoon of Sevendust (46) and former Fleetwood Mac singer/guitarist Lindsey Buckingham (69).
Tommy Lee formed Motley Crue in 1980 with Nikki Sixx, eventually adding guitarist Mick Mars and singer Vince Neil to the fold. The band has sold over 100 million albums worldwide making them one of the best-selling bands of all time. Albums like Too Fast for Love, Shout at the Devil, Theater of Pain, Girls, Girls, Girls and Dr. Feelgood are 80's metal classics. Motley Crue announced a two year long farewell tour in Jan. 2014 with their final show taking place on Dec. 31, 2015 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. I was fortunate to catch the band on their farewell tour on several occasions, and I'm a huge Crue fan. I sure miss seeing their live shows. Outside of Motley Crue, Tommy Lee founded the rap-metal band Methods of Mayhem and he's been involved with various other other solo projects.
