Have you seen bats around town?

The Vernon police department has been removing 2-3 bats a night from local households, according to today's edition of The New Jersey Herald.  Bat sightings are on the rise in Sussex County.

Bats might be depicted as evil and rabid blood suckers.  According to this piece, nothing could be further from the truth.   They are actually shy and passive animals who bite more for protection rather than aggression.   They enter homes through ridge vents in attics.

If a bat does enter your home, open a window or door.  In most cases, the bat will sense the air flow and and exit on its own.
