We lost Roy Orbison 30 years ago today (Dec. 6, 1988).
Roy Orbison was a legend. The singer, songwriter and guitarist was known throughout the 1950's and 1960's for his powerful voice, wide vocal range which ranged from baritone to tenor. He would perform wearing all black clothes, to match his dyed jet-black hair and dark sunglasses. Growing up, my dad was a huge fan of Roy Orbison and he turned me on to his music. I loved songs like "Oh Pretty Woman", "Only the Lonely", "It's Over", "Running Scared", "Crying", "In Dreams", and "Running Scared". I followed his career in the 80's when he was part of the supergroup The Traveling Wilburys along with his final studio and comeback album Mystery Girl which was released after his passing in 1989 and featured the hit "You Got It".
Roy Orbison died of a heart attack on Dec. 6, 1988 at the age of 52. His music lives on today and with a hologram tour. In Dreams: Roy Orbison In Concert- The Hologram tour played to audiences around the U.S. from Oct. 1-Nov 19 this year. I didn't get to see the show but I'm hoping more dates will be announced for 2019. I never got a chance to see Roy in concert, and I think it would be pretty cool to see the hologram tour. We remember the great Roy Orbison on the 30th anniversary of his passing today.
